Anticipated Title Axed

Inside sources reveal that Embracer Group, the powerhouse behind a spree of acquisitions during the pandemic, has pulled the plug on a much-anticipated Deus Ex game. Despite two years of pre-production work, the project at Eidos studio in Montreal, Canada, is no more, leaving fans and employees in the lurch.

Massive Buyout Leads to Cancellation

After shelling out $300 million in 2022 for Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix Montreal, Embracer Group gained control over several blockbuster franchises. Their portfolio expansion included heavy hitters like Tomb Raider and the Deus Ex series. Yet, even with this impressive lineup, the new Deus Ex project has been scrapped before its official announcement.

Deus Ex: A Legacy Discontinued

Eidos Interactive, under Square Enix’s wing since 2009, was the brain behind the successful Deus Ex series. The last major release, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, hit the shelves in 2016, adding to the series’ impressive 14 million units sold. Fans and critics alike have been yearning for more of its unique narrative and dystopian themes, but it seems the corporate axe has fallen, silencing the future of Deus Ex.

Embracer Group’s Acquisition Spree Hits a Snag

Not only has the Deus Ex series been affected, but Embracer Group’s acquisition strategy seems to be unraveling. Reports indicate that after less than three years, Embracer is considering selling Gearbox, the developer behind Borderlands. This follows the recent shutdown of Volition, the team behind Saints Row, marking the end of its three-decade run in the gaming industry.

Seeking Comments from the Top

As the gaming community reels from these surprising turns, efforts to reach Embracer Group for a statement are ongoing. Updates will be provided as this story develops and official comments are obtained.

Deus Ex Deals for Gamers

In the meantime, die-hard Deus Ex fans can find solace in snagging the primary titles of the series on sale. Digital platforms like GOG and Steam are currently offering these games for under $5, providing a bittersweet opportunity for players to revisit the cyberpunk saga.
